About Medical Indicators

Since 1988, Medical Indicators Inc. (MII) has been one of the largest global manufacturers of single-use and reusable medical thermometers. Medical Indicators’ product lines are the Tempa•DOT®, NexTemp®, and TraxIt® thermometers, and are used by medical professionals to take accurate human body temperature readings.

Medical Indicators’ products are single-use clinical thermometers used to aid major healthcare facilities such as hospitals, dialysis clinics, national health systems, and blood collection centers in reducing the incidence of Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAIs). All Medical Indicators thermometers are nonhazardous, nontoxic, latex-free, and are manufactured in a United States FDA-registered facility.

Medical Indicators, Inc. was founded and incorporated in the state of New Jersey at its original location in Pennington, NJ. The founder, Dr. Robert Witonsky, also developed the company's NexTemp® technology.

Production of NexTemp® began

1996

Filed FDA 510(k) and received exemption letter.

1999

The CE Certificate (01943) for Medical Indicators thermometers was obtained, and two more products were added to the pipeline: the NexTemp® thermometer wallet card and Traxit®, a specialized children's axillary thermometer.

2005

MIl developed NexTemp® Ultra, a new NexTemp® product whose distinguishing feature is an extended temperature signal read time of 1 minute.

2006

Attributed to a relationship starting in 2006, Medical Indicator's international marketplace presence drastically increased when the large South African distributor, DrTemp, began to sell NexTemp® thermometers overseas.

2008

MII obtained its ISO Certificate 13485, and our production currently operates under ISO 13485:2016 quality system. Medical Indicators is audited annually by BSI, and all of our products are FDA listed and CE marked.

2012

MII opens a separate UK office, Medical Indicators Europe, in Nottingham, England. All MII products conform to the accuracy requirements of ASTM specifications and meet European Standards. In April, MII acquired the Tempa•DOT® product line from international manufacturer 3M. After this acquisition, Medical Indicators was relocated to its current, facility in Hamilton, NJ. This location is home to both the corporate office and manufacturing site.
